Let's talk Borescopes!
With so many Borescopes out there, it is hard to pick the right one. Lucky for us we have really good friends at Oasis Scientific that help us in this field. They are always trying to improve based on our needs. We test and make videos of their scopes and provide feedback for them. You have probably seen them helping us out at OSH with the hands-on workshop, and they also always have a booth out there!!! We truly Appreciate everything Michael and Zack do! So, let's get started,
Vividia VA-400 V5 - Highly Recommended for Cylinder Inspections. Great Price at $250.00
Vividia VA-400i- is pretty much the same but comes with the adapter for all things and an app has to be downloaded for some phones. I had no issues with this. I think some android users had hiccups in the beginning. They changed the apps since then.
This Borescope is a one-way articulating rigid shaft 8.5mm Ablescope. We always recommend and use this in our shop for cylinder inspections and our classes for teaching how to do these cylinder inspections. The rigid shaft makes it easier for the user to know where the camera is pointing and makes it easier to get valve images straight on. This is also great for the CYL walls, Notice the cord when that is at the top that will be the 12:00 position on the cylinder wall. This is great for plug in and go. We mainly use this with laptops and use the built-in camera app and photo feature.
The VA 400i We have used these with cell phones, Ipads, and that comes with the adapters. Either One will be great for Cylinder Inspections.
Please Note: VA-400i is not compatible with MacBook computers, Chromebook and Linux systems due to lacking appropriate software. If you want to use a borescope with these systems, please choose the model, VA-400 V5.

Vividia VA-450 - LCD Two way 5.5mm Inspection Videoscope. The 4.5" Monitor is Great for getting a look at the airframe of airplane, or that nut that drops into oblivion and you can't seem to find it anywhere! In our shop we use this Just about everyday whether it is doing inspections on the airframe, needing to get a close up look at an area that is not easily accessible, or for that lost nut. We have used this around the shop as well, It work great as a magnifier or if you need to see behind things.
Vividia VA-650- LCD Two-Way Articulating Borescope Videoscope Inspection Camera with 6.2mm Diameter 1m Probe 1280x720 Resolution and IPS 5" LCD Monitor.
This Borescope we also use, It has a slightly Larger screen and comes in at a cheaper more affordable
price, this is about $300.00 and a great videoscope as well! We prob use this just about everyday. It
depends on what one is charged and within reach.
Both are great for the airframe part of the aircraft. Due to their flexible shaft we do not recommend
these type for cylinder inspections. It is always noticeable when we see images that someone has
taken in cylinders with a flexible shaft borescope. Many times the images are difficult to read. We will
discuss that in another article.
